just a drop…
With middle school around the corner for my oldest, I am trying to keep my cool and trust that God will guide and protect her through what is proven to be the toughest years.
This past year, she has learned the character that a true friend possesses and the characteristics of friends who are not true ones. I think we never stop learning this. There’s been a few that I’d love to punch in the throat but punching 10 and 11 yr Olds is probably frowned upon. So instead, we talk about weeding out the friends who may have more of a bad influence on her than she would have a good influence on them.
Like a drop of food coloring in a glass of water. One drop is all it takes to change the color of the entire glass.
I explained to her that she can either be the drop…or the water. If she is the drop then she has the opportunity to influence friends in a positive way. If she is the water, she is just waiting to be tainted and gulped up. But she can also be a corrupt drop, influencing in wrong ways.
This is just the beginning for her to start understanding this, but as adults we still have that same choice every day. We can be the drop that influences positively or the drop that influences negatively. Or we can be the water, waiting to be tainted in one way or another.
“Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character”
– 1 Corinthians 15:33
Questions to ask ourselves…
- Am I a drop or the glass of water?
- Do my choices and actions influence in good ways, or in ways that might corrupt?
